We have teamed up with bloggers from around the world to bring you super activities to help you survive the summer. At the end of this post you will find over 30 posts to inspire you. Today we are reflecting on our favourite summer fun activities for toddlers. Here are Adams top 15 summer activities from last year.
Letters and Numbers
Learning letters and numbers can be super fun outside – and on bigger scale! Take our DIY Giant Car Track. It is a great activity to get little ones into creating letters – especially those found within their names. We also made two permanent features on our garden fence – an outdoor letter line and a number wall. Both resources are easy to make and can be used all year round.
Fine Motor Skills
The garden can produce some great resources to develop fine motor skills. We painted some broad beans to create a colour sort activity and apples picked from the orchid fitted perfectly into Nana’s outdoor terracotta candle holder. We even used willow tree branches to make our spider – Adam had to thread cardboard tubes onto each ‘leg’.
Painting outside always seems more relaxing – perhaps because you know cleaning up will be easier! Adam loved Car Ramp painting. The combination of car play, a ramp and paint was just so exciting for him. Paint Splat was also a super way to incorporate gross motor skills with painting.
We did three animal activities outside last year. Our Shredded Paper Duck Hunt was messy yet lots of fun. Sheep Shearing helped develop Adam’s fie motor skills and we continued the farm yard theme with Animal Balloon Herding – watch your little ones chase the balloons around the garden!
Messy play becomes even more fun when it is outside! Our Heinz Alphabetti Pasta Messy Play was easier to clean up as it was outdoors. Last summer we created Adam his own Mud Kitchen that is available to play with during every season. Mud pies galore!
Summer time wouldn’t be complete without playing with water. Our DIY Water Wall was easy to make and didn’t cost us a penny. We also discovered how to make our own water bombs – a perfect way to cool down during the hot summer days.
