It is #RhymeTime again and the chosen Nursery Rhyme for this fortnight is Little Miss Muffet. As Adam is unfamiliar with this Nursery Rhyme I wanted an activity that he could act out repeatedly. We therefore created a Little Miss Muffet Storytelling Box.
We had lots of fun setting up the activity by decorating a shoe box. We painted the box dark blue and waited for it to dry before adding a layer of light blue paint to the inside. Whilst that was drying I printed and laminated two pictures of Little Miss Muffet from Twinkl. I cut out a picture of her sitting down and another of her running away. To complete our scene I added artificial grass recycled from our Easter Tuff Spot, a few toy trees and used a small green bowl for the tuffet for Little Miss Muffet to sit on.
All that was missing was the spider. I used a round mini peat pot recycled from our Jurassic Small World and painted it black. Once it had dried I cut the ends off of eight black straws, inserted them into the holes I made around the rim of the peat pot and attached two self adhesive googly eyes. Finally I made a hole on top of the spider and in the top of the shoe box. I inserted black wool through both holes so that the spider could move up at down.
I introduced Adam to the Little Miss Muffet storytelling box by singing him the Nursery Rhyme whilst acting out the storyline. I did this a few times in between Adam laughing at the spider making Little Miss Muffet jump.
“Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffet, eating her curds and whey…
I can tell our Little Miss Muffet storytelling box will be used many times in the future!
