It is that time of year where we turn our attention to creating Christmas cards. In the past we have taken photos of Adam dressed up. For Adam’s first Christmas we had a photo shoot invovling several outfits. I have no idea why I thought a panda outfit was festive but I couldn’t resist the temptation!
Last year we created handprint Christmas trees…
as well as handprint canvas and wrapping paper.
This year I wanted to combine Christmas cards with Christmas tree decorations. Our homemade Penguin Christmas card can be enjoyed as a card and then the penguin can be removed and placed on the Christmas tree to create a keepsake decoration.
We fell in love the Popsicle Stick Bow Tie Penguin Craft from Crafty Morning. Pop over to Crafty Morning for full instructions on how to make the cute penguin. I made a couple of adjustments because I didn’t have any white paint. I used sticky backed glitter craft foam to make the penguins tummy, beak and feet. These were stuck directly onto the penguin.
For the penguins wings I cut a lolly craft stick in half, painted them black and stuck it to the back of the penguin using Bostik Foam Pads. Our final adjustment was needed so that the penguin could be used for a decoration. I attached a small piece of ribbon to the back of the penguin.
Next we needed a card to attach the penguin to. It had to be a snowy scene. I decided to use a similar method when creating our Light Up Christmas Tree Canvas – no mess painting. I placed blue card on our table and squirted white paint around the card. Next I laid cling film on top and secured it to the table with masking tape. Adam could squish the paint around the card without getting his hands messy. He enjoyed poking the paint with his fingers and splatting his hands down onto the cling film.
I removed the cling film to reveal our snowy scene. Once the paint had dried I attached our penguin using Bostik Foam Pads.
